codecs, ./configure, and libs prob

ok here's a quick run down. first

1)where do I place downloaded codecs?

2)When I have run configure on a couple of apps to compile them I have user the --with -lib=location and the configure fails because it states it can't find the appropriate libs or headers or whatever it is even though I know I have the appropriate ones there.

3) on a side note sort of I have xine installed it came with my distro, but when I run it it just dies immediatly after it comes up. any ideas?

thanks in advance...

you can download win32 codecs from and copy them to /usr/lib/win32. then show xine where are your win32 libs are (/usr/lib/win32).
