CMS With Forum for building a community [soliciting recommendations]
I run a website which is based around a myBB (after converting from phpBB2). I am looking for a better option to offer content to my members and am considering either a portal or CMS type of software. Since I know there are many out there and each have their pro's and con's, I'd like to solicit recommendations based on requirements.
Must run on Linux, since I have root, it doesn't matter on the pre-reqs since I can install whatever I need. Would rather it have a build in forum rather than having a "hook" or a "bridge" to an external forum. Would like it to have some sort of links directory (see wsnlinks.com to get an idea). Basically create categories with links to build a directory of useful websites. Would like social networking type features - but not critical. Preferably free, though willing to give some commercial software a test drive. Must work with php 5.3.2 or above. So, let those suggestions rip! Thanks, Nigel |
opensourcecms.com allows you to trial 200+ CMSs
Hi,
I haven't got any recommendation for one, but there is an awesome setup at opensourcecms.com that allows you to trial most of the open source CMSs available. They also have voting / rating systems, so you can get an idea of the favourites amongst their users. ben. |
The only problem is, as you say, there's over 200 and most (if not all) are loaded without mods. It doesn't really help me apart from I get to see the look and feel of a system before I install it. Thanks for the suggestion.

PHPFusion, PHPNuke, Joomla, are all decent CMS systems. I prefer PHPFusion myself, primarily for the layout and ease of use for my users in updating information.
