Closing X from RH9
Hi all,
Having a problem with closing the GUI in Redhat 9.0... Everywhere i've been to, they tell me to press CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE, however, all this manages to do is put my computer into sleep mode.  If anyone can help me, I'd be very grateful... Cheers, Kuronai |
Apparently, you are using some gui login manager rather than the console login.
As root, try the command init 3 # Red Hat links Red Hat Linux Manuals Get your mp3 support here Maximum RPM rpmfind Easier software management: apt4rpm - Red Carpet Red Hat 8.0 Tips & Tricks # Red Hat 7.3 down configuration commands setup leads to several configuration tools # Red Hat 7.3 up configuration commands Configure soundcard: redhat-config-soundcard Configure X server: redhat-config-xfree86 Configure network: redhat-config-network Manage software: redhat-config-packages # Handling NTFS New Technology FileSystem (NTFS) HOWTOs Linux NTFS project |
Its probably not called the GUI... just whatever the graphical display is that comes up when Redhat 9 starts.
The login screen, but not in command line mode... thats what im prattling on about. What i need to get to, is the command line with X closed. |
Edit your /etc/inittab file and change the default run level to the number in the comments that correspond to "Full multiuser mode".
