CloneDVD-type software
Hi all,
I am looking for some CloneDVD type software that I used to use on windows. Since now converted to Linux (and still struggling I might add), I need to get hold of some DVD ripping/creating software for movies (for making back-up copies of course). I could do with a one-step process that automatically rips/compresses the data and then burns to standard 4.3Gb DVD. Any suggestions?? (preferably rpm package) as i have NEVER been able to install any other type successfully) for some reason Steve |
Hi.
I use DVDShrink running with wine. It works exactly the same as running it under Windows for me. For burning the CD you can use K3B if you like GUI. I personally use cdrecord-ProDVD and I have never had a failure. I'm using Gentoo by the way, I install my stuff from online repositories, but either way you the install shouldn't be difficult for you. >Craig PS. What distro u using? |
I do not suggest using WINE because it is hard for novice to configure it. I suggest using transcode and then use the script at http://james.nontrivial.org/projdvd.htm. For encoding into a divx or xvid file use dvd::rip. There is acid::rip but the audio and video sync is very bad.

thanks for the info
I will have a play around with your suggestions.
I am running Mandrake 10.1 - I thought I was buying the Discovery version (or whatever their official novice release was) but when it arrived, it seems I have purchased a free-download copy on dvd. |
