CLI friendly image viewer?
I am looking for image viewing software that is CLI friendly. Up until now, I have been using xv as my primary image viewing software when I start the process from a shell. However as it has been two decades since the codebase for xv has been maintained so it runs into bugs and crashes from time to time.
I have used Eog (Eye of Gnome) for some image viewing, however there is a flaw that limits it's usefulness when it is started from CLI. My problem is that when I start Eog from a CLI, Eog will include images that I did not specify from the CLI. Eog likes to grab images from the directory it is in or grab images that I viewed from a previous times.
The behavior can throw a wrench in the works when I create a script or regular expression that I specifically designed to show me a subset of the images on my computer. Many times I decide to erase a batch of images that I wish to delete, I may want to view them one list time just to be sure. I must use xv to view them, because, if I use Eog and it shows me pick that I did not specify in the CLI, I could panic only to because that the image that I did not wish to delete was never in the pool of images to discard.
I have read the documentation for Eog and I did not see an option that forces it to refrain from displaying images not specified in the CLI. Admittedly, I am running an older version of Eog, but I do not want to have to compile Eog again just to discover that the needed functionality is not included.
Do you know of an image viewer that fits my required criteria, or is there is a way to prevent Eog from displaying unwanted images?
