cleaner/sharper system fonts for kde/mandrake (jagged edges)

i've noticed that the fonts in mdk 10 stink compared to windows fonts. i always turned off anti-aliasing in windows and they were nice a sharp w/o jagged eges. in linux however, ,the fonts are either jagged w/o anti-alias or are fuzzy w/ anti-alias turned on. is there a way to use some cleaner fonts? i.e. the default font in mozilla looks awesome....nice and sharp w/o jagged edges. on the other hand, the font in firefox is very jagged. I don't know how mozilla does it.
