Clamav teminal commands
Hi:
Hi:
I'm totally newbie to clamav AV and have a few questions:
1. How can I check that the clamav-daemon is working? If not, how do I start it up?
2. How do I check, after boot up that clamav is active?
Thanks

Have you read the manual? You can get it here. https://github.com/vrtadmin/clamav-f...al/clamdoc.pdf That should answer your questions. If things are still not clear come back with your questions.

that link is the github location for the program's source
jdkaye did not inform you that "git" is NOT a normal web site
but
a simple Google search for "clamav"
--- the very first hit ---
http://www.clamav.net/lang/en/
-- the FAQ--
http://www.clamav.net/lang/en/faq/
for git the easiest for new users
https://github.com/vrtadmin/clamav-f...al/clamdoc.pdf
see the button in the middle of the page" view raw"
click on it your default pdf reader should auto open it
but for commands
run this
Code:
clamscan --help
------ and this the above command will ask you to UPDATE first-----
freshclam --help

szboardstretcher:
I downloaded the manual, but I still couldn't find how to start/stop the clamav-daemon. Also, I suppose there should be a terminal command to verify that clamav is active, but I couldn't find it in the manual. Thanks for the help.

well how did you install clam ?
and on what OS ?
and did you configure the system to always run it ?
( the Deamon is ONLY needed if this is a mail server serving mail to MS windows computers )
that is " clamav-milter "
there are a lot of guides for each distro , but without knowing that ..........

Thanks for responding. In answering your questions:
1. How did I install clamav? Using Synaptic Package Manager
2. What OS? Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
3. How did you configure the system? I'm a newbie. I want to know how to configure it so that is always running in the background (if that is possible with this AV).
I installed the daemon because I thought I needed it, but you explained it is necessary on a Windows environment. Not my case. My ignorance.
Thanks for your assistance and understanding.
