Hello, guys! I'm using Debian Wheezy 7.1 and i'm trying to use ClamAv antivirus, but i can't run him! I tried to install him using aptitude install clamav. When i try to run "freshclam", the output is:
Quote:
ClamAV update process started at Tue Oct 22 22:22:37 2013
WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED!
WARNING: Local version: 0.97.8 Recommended version: 0.98
DON'T PANIC! Read http://www.clamav.net/support/faq
main.cvd is up to date (version: 55, sigs: 2424225, f-level: 60, builder: neo)
daily.cld is up to date (version: 17993, sigs: 424138, f-level: 63, builder: neo)
bytecode.cvd is up to date (version: 228, sigs: 43, f-level: 63, builder: neo)
Is really necessary update my version of clamav? The Debian repository doesn't have this final version of clamav!
What can i do to solve this problem?
clamav is mostly used for checking mails for viri. At least what I learned thus far. So somehow it is for servers. But you can use it on your "normal" machine as well.
If you like some more antiviri see for the trinity rescue kit. It can install 4 different viri scanners. ClamAV being one of them. Either you could install it as a second OS or on USB or just go with the live CD and download the antiviri parts all the time.
Unofficial packages are available through the Debian volatile project (AMD64 arch is also supported). They are usually more recent than official ones and they are maintained by Stephen Gran too, so (..)
*BTW there ain't no such thing as "viri" or "virii". Unless one is (talking to) a VXer use "viruses".
Don't say 'ain't'.
Your mother will faint.
Your father will fall
In a bucket of paint.
Your sister will cry.
Your brother will sigh.
The cat and dog will say good-bye.
