CISCO VPN client install solution

Hi all,

I've been having fun installing (compiling) the CISCO VPN client v4.6.00 (0045) on Debian testing and stable and found these quirks:

When installing the client you need to have the source and headers for the running kernel installed (basic)

MOST IMPORTANTLY you need to have version 3.3 of gcc installed, v3.4 or 4.x will compile the module successfully but the module will not load successfully (at least this was with kernel 2.6.8)

I hope that future versions of the VPN client will compile correctly with gcc 3.4 or 4.x

HTH

Depending on your Cisco configuration, you may be able to use the open source vpnc client instead. I use this to connect to our company's vpn.

Thanks cjcox, I did get the CISCO client working ok in the end!

Are you referring to OpenVPN on Sourceforge? I haven't had a play with it but will do so, thanks.
