Circular dependencies in portage, file and eselect

Hi,

I'm having some problems emerging things on my newly installed Gentoo box.

Almost everything I try to emerge gets me stuck in this circular dependency with file and eselect:

Code:

(sys-apps/file-5.05, ebuild scheduled for merge) depends on
(app-admin/eselect-python-20100321, ebuild scheduled for merge) (buildtime)
(app-admin/eselect-1.2.11, ebuild scheduled for merge) (buildtime)
(sys-apps/file-5.05, ebuild scheduled for merge) (runtime)

I have set the USE flag "-python" on file, but it didn't break the loop.

Does anyone have a solution for this?
If you need any more info, just ask.

Thanks,
Zmegolaz

I don't see python in your emerge --info

what about the output of

Code:

emerge -pv python

Zmegolaz 04-17-2011 03:35 PM

Thanks for helping out. Here's the output:

Code:

(chroot) livecd / # emerge -pv python

This is a new install, no?

Have you been following the amd64 handbook?

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handboo...book-amd64.xml

Did you use the latest stage3 tarball and latest portage snapshot?

I am not sure what you have and have not done.

Zmegolaz 04-17-2011 03:55 PM

Correct, it's a new install.

I have followed the amd64 handbook, used the latest stage3 and tarball, yes.
I'm currently at stage 9, installing the first packages.

Right now I'm thinking about starting over, in case I missed something.
