Chromium Browser volume way too loud.

Does anyone know how to set the volume level in Chromium Browser?
I just clicked on a YouTube link a few minutes ago and just about burst my eardrums!
This has never happened with any other browser or application so I don't think system wide settings will help with this. The volume is well beyond what could be considered a safe level an should not even be possible through earphones.

I suspect that Chromium may be by-passing the system's volume controls altogether! (very un-cool if that's true)

I could be wrong, but I don't think audio is part of the browser. There are plugins for playing various flash, html5, mp3, etc. formats. Maybe you have a bad plugin.

Well, Flash does rely on a plugin but I'm fairly certain that html5 in built-in.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to sandbox the browser and channel the sound through a software mixer?

I need to replace my Opera Browser. I use Iceweasel (Firefox) for sensitive things and I've been trying Chromium for general surfing. I'd like a browser that doesn't suddenly start blasting my ears! (my ears are still ringing)
