Chrome on Mint 17.2 "Installation is not enabled"

I recently installed Mint 17.2 with Cinnamon.

I installed Chrome. Whenever I try to install an extension from the Chrome Store I get a yellow box that points to the address bar that says "Installation is not enabled" and an OK button.

Well it's not OK, so I resent having the click that button! ;-)

I've Googled around (oh, the irony) and find mostly information that has to do with Chromebooks. This is on a desktop machine.

I've found information that says you have to be logged in to Google/Chrome and the Chrome store with the same ID. I am.

I've hit a wall, but I can't believe I'm the one to have this problem. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help.
