Question Children's Educational Software

I'm a homeschooling stay-at-home dad, a happily unemployed geek who is making the massive shift away from Gatesification. I remembered Linux from my college days, and have begun the home migration. Yes, I'm a (probably pretty apparent 'cuz I think that smiley's cool.)

I've already moved my AMD950 from XP to Fedora 3, with which I'm pretty happy.

One sticking point, as far as my wife's concerned, is all the educational software we have for our kids. I know about dual boot, and perhaps that would be the way to go until we wean ourselves off completely.

The other option I've been considering is this -- is there any educational software out there? I mean, I can build a decent back end, but my user interfaces suck big time. I definitely can't make Winnie the Pooh quiz addition and laugh when the wrong answer is provided.

So, is there children's educational software in the Linux world? Anyone want to work with me to develop some? Did I just make an offer I may regret?

Thanks in advance for the information.

Thanks in hindsight for actually reading this long-winded post.\

Adios,
Clay

My grandaughter loves gcompris.

It is a simple game orientated educational software with varying levels of difficulty.

Have a look http://gcompris.free.fr/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=2

also might want to look into and Crossover Office and Cedega for some of the windows based kids games out there like the Jump Start line.

I have never tried them on my linux systems, but IIRC some of them are supported at either end of the wine projects i linked up there. the crossover office offers a free 30day trial so i would sujest starting there, Cedega requires 3 months up front payment of $15 to try their stuff out.

if it works id be interested as we also homeschool as it is just so much better then the FL Public education system. wifes does most of the work, i just help with math and history, and computers.

Hi,

You could try installing wine and then running your windows software in linux. I run Mandrake 10.1 and this works for some games.
