Checking Hotmail (I know Hotmail sucks...but)
Hey,
I am wondering what software there is to be able to let me use my Hotmail from a Linux e-mail client. Right now I don't have any e-mail clients configured under Linux so I don't have a preference for what e-mail client to use. Yes I know that Hotmail sucks but I figure that because it already gets lots of junk mail I may as well just keep using it as a place for other mail I would consider Junk. I actually have a few other e-mail accounts that I use for all types of other mail and those are POP3 and IMAP. So basically I am not really looking for suggestions on an e-mail provider that I could use in place of Hotmail, I am looking for a way to interface Hotmail with an e-mail client. You could make suggestions on ways to replace Hotmail but I probably will not consider them. I don't want this thread to turn into a why we hate Hotmail thread or a thread the endlessly lists alternatives to Hotmail. I already know they exist. Thanks, Tool |
Theres loads of them. Check sourceforge.net You'll find a bunch.
Basically, most of them act as an inbetween. It runs a little server on your computer that intercepts your hotmail mail, and sends it back out as a POP stream. You then configure your email client to read the pop stream coming from 127.0.0.1 It usually works pretty well. |
there are lots if them on sourceforge.net

If you are a KDE user (or happen to like kmail) there is a new tutorial on getting kmail to download and use hotmail. Check out:
hotmail -> kmail Good luck. s1ider |
For Hotmail POP3 support, you need to pay for a subscription. Or atleast that's what I remember reading somewhere online.
Don't use Hotmail that much (why would I when I've gmail ;)) ... So - didn't investigate that much into that area. :) Debian Kernel |
evaluatinglinux - unless you were doing this in 2003 and have merely delayed posting for a while, I think Toolboy has moved on from this problem.
