checking for X ... configure

Ive tried to compile a few programs from .gz files, and when i have gone to type ./configure, i keep getting the same problem for about 4 or 5 different programs, mainly

checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!

does anyone know what this means? thanks for reading!

You are missing some libs. You need to install the development libs for xfree. How they are called with redhat is beyond me - probably something like xfreedev.rpm.
