Check Point FloodGate open source alternative

Hi all,

I have a LAN in the office used for internet use of the employees, and I have a problem that when somebody is downloading/uploading a file (part of the job), than the connection starts to be slow for everybody else.

The work with FW of Check Point, and I know of a solution they offer, called FloodGate. I'm looking for an open source alternative that will allow me to limit the bandwidth for users.

Do you know such an open source solution?
Is there any other recommended way to solve the issue I'm having?

Thanks in advance!

The Linux kernel supports this feature, and you can control it with iproute, it's called "traffic shaping" or "bandwidth shaping" in case you want to do more accurate searches.

This is a random example I just googled:
http://www.topwebhosts.org/tools/traffic-control.php

I have no idea if there are graphical frontends, I am used to the command line for all this stuff.
