changing XCursor themes on the fly?

Is this even possible with X 4.3.0? Gentoo came with several themes, and I found a bunch of themes over at kde-look.org (although I wish I could find some more).

Editing /usr/share/cursors/xfree/default/index.theme and restarting X is a real pain. I looked all over but couldn't find any info or apps to change my XCursor theme without having to restart X.

Any links or info is much appreciated!

Not that I know of.
How many times do you need to change your cursor theme anyway? I have a nice blue animated 3d theme and untill I spot or make a better theme I have no intention of changing.

that's a good point. I was just being lazy and hoping for a quick way to sample my themes

one thing I'm noticing is that not all themes react the same depending on the windowmanager I use.

Some themes have special animated cursors for diagonal window resizing, but these cursors will be replaced by default cursors in some managers (i.e. a cursor that works in windowmaker doesnt work in fluxbox)

stranger and stranger...

You can always logon to another tty and do 'startx -- :1', then 'startx -- :2' for a third etc..(untill you run out of F# keys :-)..with a different theme in each......try that with windows :-P
