Changing the default folder nemo opens when launching
i'm running mint 19.1 and instead of having nemo as my default file manager i'm using dolphin cause it truly is far superior to nemo. that said the one thing you can't do in dolphin is open computer:/// like you can in nemo. for this i have created a shortcut to nemo on my desktop and renamed it computer. i just need to know how to have it open to computer every time i open it. thanks
fyi
if peeps are wondering why i don't just use the default computer that is on the mint desktop, it's cause when you hide the desktop icons and use the file manager to view the desktop computer doesn't show in that folder.
In the shortcut file, add the command line argument computer:///. When you right-click on it and bring up the GUI to edit it, there should be something along the lines of command or command line. Add a space and computer:/// here.
thanks guess i'll have to deal without it cause it takes too long to launch.
You came looking for help, and given a short and easy solution, this is your response? The solution really isn't that difficult, you already created the shortcut, now all you have to do is modify it - _once_ with the instructions tyler gave you.

As if it wasn't slow when he asked his question, as he had used nemo before, yet he still went ahead and created the shortcut and asked.

how about ONLY commenting on what you actually know about? first i didn't switch to dolphin cause nemo was slow. i switched to dolphin cause dolphin is a far Superior file manage except for a couple of items. second i didn't expect it to take over a minute for computer:/// to load from the shorcut. i expected it to open as fast as nemo normally does, which is almost instantly. third i for one will not put up with for a second rude, unhelpful, and unnecessary post.
instant gratification deprivation is messing with your psyche.
pcmanfm you can set the default directory to open to in the settings.
from the time you click on the shortcut it takes over a minute for it to open. nemo normally opens instantly. i do appreciate the attempt to help, but of course you couldn't take my previous post for what it was and that was a thanks for the help.

cool your jets, I can already see the effects of your instant gratification deprivation taking hold of you, becoming frustrated, and irritated as a result of it, and I did, as you mentioned. I recommended another file manager that opens to whatever you set as a default dir you set it to.
it is gathering up the information of your entire system before it opens to show you. that is why it is taking so long. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad that is called the reality principle, it helps the psyche to deal with instant gratification deprivation.
I no longer have mint installed or on a stick to play with it.

O' Tay, I got mint cinnamon and NeMo on it. you said you use dolphin for your own option on it, and it cannot open computer (filesystem) and you created a shortcut for nemo and renamed it computer, does it not already use nemo or set up to use nemo for computer?
so that is confusing...
I created a desktop file in Desktop for nemo open / (root) boom it opens fast. With everything on the side bar.
I installed dolphin then created a launcher for dolphin, boom it opens fast, gives home dir, and everything on the side bar for the rest of the system.
what it does not do is open NeMo like it does with its default set up that it is getting from where, I do not know. That one shows all of the drives as little icons in the main window.
other then that, what I set up opens up toot sweet for both of them. bada bing bada boom. Bobs you uncle.
now back to slack or void, and get on with what I was processing...
o 'Tay what part of i hide the desktop icons and view what's on the desktop via the fild manager didn't you understand. o' Tay once again when viewed via your file manager the computer shortcut that is placed on the actual desktop cannot be seen in it's folder. o 'Tay thus why i wanted to create my own shortcut to computer:/// on the desktop. o 'Tay if you can't read don't reply.

no where in your original post does it say you hide anything that is on your desktop

from what I see and said badly is that you are trying to create a shortcut on your desktop that uses one file manger over another that opens up to show your entire file system, aka computer.

what is the point of putting anything on the desktop if you're going to hide it? put it in a folder/in a menu/ keyboard short cuts to get what you want and where you want to go in the system...

because i can simply open the desktop folder, shortcut folder, torrent folder, last night's folder in tabs and when i just want to see ONLY the desktop i can simply minimize dolphin. questioning peeps on their person preferences helps no one.
