Question changing host name

I changed the hostname of my computer, and then restarted, as it restarted httpd failed to start, and failed to stop and then start in the services window. I changed the name back and it started just fine. Is there something I have to do besides changing the host name in the network config?

I'm using RH9 with Ximian desktop 2.

The reason I want to change the name is because I have another computer on my network that is trying to access a mysql server which is this computer. But I didn't name the computer the same name in windows and linux, and the other computer is still trying to use the windows hostname, and to top it off, I can't find a way to change the hostname to connect to on the other computer. The other computer basically says it can't find the server and stops. I tried stopping the IPtables service, but it still won't connect when I tried another application on the other computer. Any recommendations?

Firstly, depending on how you've got apache set up, it might not like your hostname change. What do you get as error messages when you try and start httpd using a terminal?

Secondly, it sounds like you've got an issue with samba. You need to make sure that the hostname that the windows computer is looking for is not the same as the SAMBA hostname - edit smb.conf to alter this.
