changing GDM, xinit, etc.

How do you add entries to GDM? I tried looking through the gdm.conf, google.

Before I started using GDM, when I would type "startx" GNOME would start. And when I typed "xinit", X would start and give me just a Cli.

Now when I type startx, GDM starts (not a problem), but when I type xinit, GNOME starts. I want to know how to stop GNOME from starting when I type xinit, because I like to just load X, and then type in a WM command (fluxbox, windowmaker, etc)

Also, how do I change the default desktop environment when I startx.

To determine the client to run, startx first looks for a file called .xinitrc in the user's home directory.
