Change workspaces with mouse in gnome

Is there anyway to change workspaces with the mouse in Gnome, similar to how it works in Enlightenment 16/17? I looked around in gconf-editor for metacity, but I couldn't find anything. Any ideas?

If you are using Gnome 2.10 or later, if you hover your mouse over the workspace panel you can use the mouse wheel to cycle through the workspaces.

I know, I'm just looking for a more elegant solution, it's not nearly as intuitive as E16/17.

I never used enlightenment.

Please tell us (at least people like me) who don't know about the speciality. :)

Ah, my bad, shouldn't have assumed everyone knows what I'm talking about :P.

On Gnome, I have 8 Workspaces, 4 on top, and 4 on bottom. Basically, assuming this was E17 (or E16 for that matter) if I simply dragged my mouse to the right border of the screen, it would (with a slight delay so as not to drive me crazy) jump to the workspace to the right. It behaves the same going up and down.

You can drag/carry windows across Workspaces, and it totally beats CTRL+ALT(+SHIFT)+Left/Right/Up/Down any day.

Hmm.......That sounds good. :)

I will install englightenment today, and try it.
THat will give me a better idea of what are you are saying.

If anyone wants to just try it out, I'd recommend giving the LiveCD a test run. It's not that difficult to get e17 installed (just make sure you read everything, and build from CVS), but it's a lot easier to just download/run a LiveCD :P.

Live CD?

Umm...No. :(

700MB and that too just to see how it feels like!

I will install it. :)
Expect a reply from me soon. :)

Hey GT

I think I know what you are talking about and since reading this post, experimented with my Ubuntu (Gnome) desktop and found it. I imagine it would be the same on regular Gnome.

go to "System --> Preferences --> Screen Actions" and you can customize the screen to react to the different desktops in the manner you described. You can also set the delay so "as not to drive you crazy" :-)

Dragging windows also works just fine.

Hope this helps.
