change volume using console

I'm using Suse and I was wondering it it is possible to change the volume using the console. At the moment the only way I can do it by clicking the volume icon on the suse top bar. The reason I need to know this is to configure my multimedia buttons to change the global volume.

You could use the command: aumix -v 100 . Where the number 100 is max volume and 80 would be more reasonable.
