change my screen resolution

I am unable to change my screen resolution through the graphic utility. How can i change without this tool

edit your /etc/X11/XF86config file

might also be /etc/X11/Xorg file

You give us precious little to work with. Such as: which distro; what graphical utility?
You can cycle through the resolutions set up by your distro when you installed it by pressing the [ctrl][alt][+] and [ctrl][alt][-] keys.

I am using RedHat enterprise Linux 3.0 and my display device is a DELL flat pannel .
