change default applications when I click a hyperlink in xdvi

If a hyperlink in a xdvi file is pointing to a file in my hard drive,
say, file:/home/user1/a.pdf , which is a pdf file, then I am able to automatically open the file by clicking on it. Now, I would like to change the default application (evince) that open that pdf file.
How should I customize it ? Is it under xdvik customization (where?), or gnome setting (where?) , or somewhere else ?
I have been thinking about this issue for ages, especially I am using the hyperlink capability in xdvik. Thanks a million !!!!

$HOME/.xdvirc seems to be the key file to work on.. But can anyone provide a quick answer ?

I don't have all the answers. But someone good at customizing X might help me.

On running xdvi on Fedora 10, and clicking on a hyperlink to an internet
site,

the following messages appear:

Quote:

xdvi-xaw3d: Info: Browser not set (xdvi.wwwBrowser, -browser or $BROWSER environment variable).
xdvi-xaw3d: Info: Using built-in default: `xdg-open %s:htmlview %s:firefox -remote "openURL(%s,new-window)":mozilla -remote "openURL(%s,new-window)":netscape -remote "openURL(%s,new-window)":xterm -e w3m %s:xterm -e lynx %s:xterm -e wget %s'
I tried to play with editres but I have no luck. It seems this is
an X jungle game here.. Anyone please ? I hope my thread will be helpful
for those who have the same problem as me. Cheers!

My colleague helped me to identify the key file to edit:
/etc/mailcap !!
