cedega steam very low fps

Gentoo 2005.1 x86_64 (Kernel: 2.6.12)
AMD 3400+ 64
ATI Radeon 9800XT 256mb
1.5GB RAM

Direct Rendering: Yes
glxgears FPS = 4000-5000
ati-drivers = 8.14.13-r2
cedega = 4.4.1-1

Everything installed perfectly no problems. Steam updated OK, it works fine. But when i goto actually play in-game my FPS drops to 5. On the normal game menus it works fine, but as soon as i join a game (or start my own) my fps dies.

I've tried different resolutions and my FPS doesn't get any better, even when using 640x480.

Thanks for any help
