CDROM problem

Ok, I'm running openSuse 10.0, and when I put in a cd in the drive it shows up on my desktop and I'm able to play it with Banshee. However when I right click on the the disc to explore it I get an error and when I try to navigate to the directory in /media/ there is nothing in the cdrom and dvdrecorder directories (same drive).

However, when I put a DVD in the same drive, a new directory is automatically created.

Quote:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2006-04-10 21:10 CAPOTE -> /media/dvdrecorder
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 2006-04-08 17:10 cdrom
drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2006-04-10 21:10 dvdrecorder
drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2006-04-10 19:31 floppy
As a result I cannot run ripit when I put a cd in there because it says it cannot find the device, but when I put a DVD in there I can view the contents.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Thanks again for all your help.

It also mounts and is viewable with a Data CD but not with an audio DVD. How is this possible? It's like it is ignoring Audio Discs.

Any ideas ?

I don't have a sound card so I can't really say from experience, but from what I have read, Audio CD's can not be mounted to a mount point since they do not have a file system. You might be able to try and force it by doing this as root:
Code:
#mount -t iso9660 -r /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
Make sure you have an exiting directory called /mnt/cdrom.

Let me know what happens,

ya, doesn't work. Maybe it's something else then. I've never really noticed whether or not I could mount and audio drive or explore one before during this install, so maybe I just couldn't? That being said, it would be odd that you would be able to explore an audio cd in windows but not in linux, as it seems like a reasonable thing someone would want to do.

http://www.elis.ugent.be/~ronsse/cdfs/

I found this on google. It emulates a file system on audio and other RAW data CD formats. Could be helpfull. Let me know if you have any problems with it.
