cdrom doesn't open??????

ok this probably sounds stupid to a lot of you but why the hell doesn't linux let cd drives open when you push the button on them? in previous redhat versions i had to right click the icon and click eject and NOW i am using redhat 9 and among many other problems THERES NO FREAKING EJECT! am i stupid?? i mean wtf is going on? a lot of people have told me redhat 9 is far better than 7.2 and 7.3 but the way things are going i might just switch back this sucks

If its mounted and your accessing, you can't eject as its busy. You either have to umount it first or type eject at the command line to eject the cd.

One of my pet likes about Mandrake is supermount...but you can open a terminal and issue the command eject /dev/cdrom or whatever the device is. You may need to first issue the command umount /dev/cdrom.

try typing this in console

eject /dev/cdrom

(work in red hat)

typing just 'eject' also works.
