cdrom boot failed

I have a Mandrake-Linux 8.0 CD. It's bootable - I've booted from it successfully several times in work. At home I have a Fujitsu Siemens Primergy. It has a bootable CDROM - I've booted several Windows (NT, 2000 etc.) for during various Windows installations.

However my Mandrake 8.0 CD (7.0, 7.1 & 7.2) all fail to boot - I get the message Boot Failed. I can however continue installation of my Linux OS if I use appropriate boot diskettes.

Is there some BIOS settings I'm missing in order to allow me boot from a Linux boot disk.

My thanks

I could only think that it would be BIOS or hardware related. That is very strange that it would do that. Wonder if it does it with other Distro's? Have you given that a try, your machine might just truly not like Mandrake CD's...

older BIOSes don't support ATAPI bootable cds... If your BIOS is >5 years old this is probably the case. The only solution is to use boot disks.

Older (4x) cdrom drives have given me grief in the past.
