cdrecord problem: Drive does not support TAO recording.

Hi, I am trying to burn a DVD-R with cdrecord.

When I do this command:
Code:
cdrecord -multi backup-progettiJava.tar.bz2.
I get this problem:
Code:
cdrecord: Warning: using inofficial libscg transport code version (schily - Red Hat-scsi-linux-sg.c-1.83-RH '@(#)scsi-linux-sg.c 1.83 04/05/20 Copyright 1997 J. Schilling').
Device type    : Removable CD-ROM
Version        : 0
Response Format: 2
Capabilities   :
Vendor_info    : '_NEC    '
Identifikation : 'DVD+-RW ND-6500A'
Revision       : '202C'
Device seems to be: Generic mmc2 DVD-R/DVD-RW.
cdrecord: Found DVD media: using cdr_mdvd.
Using generic SCSI-3/mmc DVD-R(W) driver (mmc_mdvd).
Driver flags   : SWABAUDIO BURNFREE
Supported modes: PACKET SAO
cdrecord: Drive does not support TAO recording.
cdrecord: Illegal write mode for this drive.
I thought it was a missing driver in kernel configuration, so I build a new kernl with Packet writing on CD/DVD media as a module; but it's seem doesn't work.
I am able to burn a DVD-R with nautilus, so I guess this a just a problem of config cdrecord.
Some of you can give me a hint ?

Thank you really much, Antonello

Use growisofs and not cdrecord to burn DVD's;

growisofs -Z[M] <my_burner> -R -J /some/files

Use growisofs instead of the broken/hacked cdrecord (it has a long history of having problems). For example:

growisofs -Z /dev/dvd -R -J /some/files

You can use 'man growisofs' to get additional details on options and examples.

What I use sometimes, see 'man mkisofs' for the details;

growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/hdc -joliet-long -max-iso9660-filenames -J -V -r -D /path/to/directory/here

And before I forget;

$ growisofs -version
* growisofs by <appro@fy.chalmers.se>, version 6.1,
front-ending to mkisofs: mkisofs 2.01.01a03 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu)
