cdrecord heeeeeeeelp!!!!

I have a newly RH9 linux on my computer, and when i use cdrecord i does his work well, but at a very low speed.
I have 2HD, 1 DVD and 1 CD-RW, both HD are in the same IDE channel. The CD-RW is a LG HL-DT-ST' 'CD-RW GCE-8481B and can burn up to 48x, but usually burns at 16 the most.

Any ideas??

Try spliting the IDE channels IE...
1st HD IDE0/master
DVD IDE0/slave
2nd HD IDE1/master
CD-RW IDE1/slave
make sure your temp file uses the 2nd HD

do you pass:
cdrecord --dev=x,x,x -speed=x nameoffile
and also just like dmx said, are the cd's capable of the speed you desire?
