CD Writing

Wondering if anyone could help me out. I cannot burn a CD using K3B. I could burn data and ISO CDs, but now when I try to burn an audio CD it gives me an error. I had made some changes to my /etc/fstab file when trying to get an automounter work, so I think this may be the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Here is the dubugging output I'm getting:

System
-----------------------
K3b Version:0.11.12
KDE Version: 3.2.3
QT Version: 3.3.2

cdrdao
-----------------------
Cdrdao version 1.1.9 - (C) Andreas Mueller <andreas@daneb.de>
SCSI interface library - (C) Joerg Schilling
Paranoia DAE library - (C) Monty
Check http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html#dt for current driver tables.
Using libscg version 'schily-0.8'
ATAPI:/dev/hdc: IDE-CD R/RW 4x4x24 Rev: C1.7
Using driver: Generic SCSI-3/MMC (raw writing) - Version 2.0 (options 0x0000)
Burning entire 79 mins disc.
Starting write ERROR: Cannot retrieve drive capabilities mode page.
at speed 0...
Process can be aborted with QUIT signal (usually CTRL-\).
ERROR: Cannot retrieve write parameters mode page.
ERROR: Cannot retrieve write parameters mode page.
ERROR: Cannot retrieve write parameters mode page.
ERROR: Cannot setup disk-at-once writing for this drive.
ERROR: Writing failed.

cdrdao comand:
-----------------------
/usr/bin/cdrdao write --device ATAPI:/dev/hdc --speed 4 -n -v 2 --eject --remote 21 /tmp/kde-jon/k3b_audio_6_.toc

The program also gives this initial error:

Using cdrdao 1.1.9
Starting dao writing at 4x speed
Medium or burner do not support writing at 4x speed
Switching down burn speed to 0x
Error while decoding audio tracks
Unlocking drive
Removing buffer files

I'm going to keep searching for some answers, but so far, nothing.

Hi

I'm also using Slackware 10, and using the K3b package off http://linuxpackages.net (0.11.12).

I get exactly the same error as you do. I have used the same hardware with other versions of k3b and other distros in the past without a problem.

Although I don't have a fix yet (I only struck it today), I do have a workaround, taken from the linuxpackages.net site for K3b for Slack 9.1:

<quote>
Add your drive to /usr/share/cdrdao/drivers in this format: # Drivers for read operations R|TOSHIBA|ODD-DVD SD-R5272|generic-mmc-raw # Drivers for write operations W|TOSHIBA|ODD-DVD SD-R5272|generic-mmc-raw And test if work, in case change and/or add other end string (see instruction to documentation of cdrdao, and other sample to file drivers). Thanks for use my package k3b, bye.
<end quote>

I did this and although it still didn't work initially, I found that setting the Writing Mode to "RAW" in the burning dialog got it going ok.

I suspect the best answer will be to upgrade the k3b and perhaps cdrdao packages.
