CD Ripping with Kaudio

I have been trying to use Kaudio to rip songs to mp3. The songs seem to get ripped ok and then fail during the encoding phase. The encoder is set to "lame" but when I search though installed packages via dslelect I cant find laame in installed or new packages. If this is the problem I dont have a solution. Although if someone reccomends better ripping software I will give it a try.

to see if you have lame, just try the command lame in a terminal window. If it's installed it will give you the version name, options, blah.

If not, I'm sure you can get lame for whatever distribution you're using. It's good.

Grip is supposed to be a good ripping software, but I prefer to do it in the cosole

to rip the cd to wave files using 'cdda2wav'

cdda2wav -B -D /dev/cdrom -L 1

If there was a cddb enty for this cd then a file named 'audio.cddb' or something similar will be created in the directory and it will contain all the information retrieved from the database. You can use this information in your mp3 the tag editor if you want.

I convert the wave files to MP3 or OGG using lame or oggenc respectively.
