CD / DVD Recorder permissions

Alright, I've searched all over to find an answer to this question, but can't find one yet. Hopefully this thread will help someone else with the same problem.

I'm running FC3 on my home desktop. I have two users root and me. I don't care about locking "me" out. I don't have to worry about other users logging on to my machine and messing it up cause it's just me using it.

So, my problem is that I can run K3b as root and everything works fine. CD recorder and reader are detected and can burn and everything. When I log in as "me", K3b cannot autodetect any drives. here is my ls -l /dev/hdc

brw-rw---- 1 root disk 22, 0 Aug 12 15:35 /dev/hdc

I know nothing about setting permissions, so please be very specific. Don't just tell me to set my uid and gid and .... I need a step by step so that user "me" can burn CDs after login. I don't want to have to do chmod every single time. Please help.

in k3bsetup you have to enable a buring group and make sure that "me" is added to it.

There's no such thing as K3b setup in FC3. According to the release notes for Fedora Core 3 here http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...-NOTES-en.html

"Past users of the CD/DVD burning application k3b may notice that the program k3bsetup is missing. This is because k3bsetup is not necessary under Fedora Core 3"

besides, I want to be able to use the drive for other programs besides K3b.
