"cd ~" in ftp is not happening


Hi Friends,
In my Linux PC "cd ~" is not going to home directory of that login..is not happening..how can i achieve it

"ftp 192.168.178.121"
after giving username and pasword..its login to specified account...for ftp purpose...
if i go into any sub directory, then "cd ~" is not working to come back from that directory to HOME directory.

any inputs from u friends,

Maybe "cd ~" is not a valid ftp command???

The syntax for ftp is not 100% the same as for the shell.

You're right, pixellany. The shell probably aliases '~' to $HOME or something. Ftp most likely doesn't know the meaning of '~' (unless the documentation explicitely says it does).

You could try 'cd' (without specifying a path), but this will probably fail too.
