CCTV software needed for remote viewing of 8 camera DVR behind router
I need to get software for viewing my shop cameras from my laptop with wwan card. I have an ADT 8 camera DVR and a Motorola Netopia 3347-02 router from AT&T. My shop computer is running Windows 7 with RASPlus for viewing locally. I have a Dell Lattitude D520 laptop with Knoppix 6.2 and a WWAN card. What software do I need to view the cameras from the road? What do I need to do to get past my router? I hear that Zoneminder is not good enough to handle the 8 cameras.
Zoneminder is definitely one of the best alternatives in the Open Source community. You can find a lot of information, and get answers to specific questions, here:
Tried the using XP laptop and the RASPlus software with ip address and ports properly configured. Didn't work. Get "connection time out" error. Pin holes are set properly. Can see locally but not from another network. ADT techs can't get it working either. I'm trying to make total switch to Linux. Considering buying new computer with capture cards to hook up current and extra cameras.
You need to open ports in your router if you get connection time out, no Linux software will work better than Windows if the data is not accessible. You could try using wine to run the Windows software, but I am not sure if it will work.
I shut the Win7 PC down when leaving to keep others off of it and to save on electricity. Searched through all settings to change port status but have not found anything. The only thing close to opening ports is NAT, which is setup correctly, comfirmed with ADT. I'll just build me a system & sell the ADT System.
I totally forgot to close this out. Problem solved without reverting to Wingders. After a reckless chewing out of ADT, they corrected their F*ups. Wiring and correct cameras. Once that was done, everything automatically worked as it was setup to do.
