Cast video from Android mobile app to Linux PC

Hello folks,

I would like to kindly ask you for advise.
I would like to cast from my smartphone to linux PC same way like I do to any Smart TV.

I run linux debian bullseye amd64 system, so I could not utilize Gotubecast app designed for Raspberry armhf only.
Also I cannot use Kodi for some reason.

Youtube TV in browser also did not work for me.

So question is, is there any app which will allow me to cast from youtube app to my linux PC machine?
In best way it would be running in background as daemon

Thank you for any tip and advise.
Best regards Mira

hello ondoho,

thanks a lot for your suggestion. However screen mirroring is not what I need. Rather I meed some kind of upnp plyer which will be shown in android youtube app same way like a smart tv. I wanna send/cast video from that youtube app to be played regardless whats going on on the mobile after that.

Plex might be the option, but it seems to be oveekill for my needs. I do not need additional media center app. I already have Kodi, I just cannot use Kodi for that purpose because it's audio output is assigned to HDMI. I wanna some llayer which will accept youtube cast just to play music which will be outputed to another sound card. If I would not run Squeezelite, I could do it all together in Kodi.

Anyway thanks a lot for your post and effort bro!

Might be Rygel an option to serve as renderer for upnp app, anyone has experience?
Or any other light weight upnp AV renderer recommendation?

Sorry, I think you're going to have to explain your requirements better.
I didn't understand the last 2 posts at all.

I am sorry. I will do my best to explain better.
I am running XBMC as media server and media center for my TVs connected over HDMI. XBMC has assigned HDMI sound card as output device. Designed for video playback.
Then I run Squeezelite for internet radios or mp3 playback. Sueezelite has assigned another sound card (3.5mm jack) coming to amplifier, speakers are all around my house.
That setup is reason why I cannot use XBMC Youtube addon to play/listen to music stream from youtube stream, I do not want it's to output sound to HDMI. I wanna get sound from youtube stream to 3.5mm jack sound card.
Anyway I would like to be able to play music into 3.5mm sound card from andoid device youtube app also.
Unluckily Squeezelite cannot accept stream from Android BubbleuPNP app. I suppose it is because it is not designed for video streams.
So I am looking for additional player which would be shown in BubbleuPNP application as renderer and could accept video stream. Some lightweight would be nice.
Then, finally, if I would wanna listen to music from youtube, I will go youtube app => share over BubbleuPNP(or similar) and send stream to my linux PC directly from my phone.

Let me know if you have any idea. I really appreciate your kind support. Best regards Mira

hello folks,

now I am here to answer own question. Solution might be helpful for anybody looking for same thing.
Solution is to use Rygel as uPnP interface for VLC.
Rygel allow VLC to show/serve as renderer in BubbleuPnP app on my phone.
BubbleuPnP app is limited to 3 external sources per application launch at free version, so I would have to restart it often. So I tried another streaming app called "Web Video Caster" and it works also great. Tested with Youtube and all other video streaming web sites.
Both VLC and Rygel are now running as daemon and VLC is controlled by android remote app.

Kind regards Mira

After testing most of android apps, seems like all free are having somehow limited playlist management.
So alternative option, more effective seems to be running utube and control it from my phone over x11vnc
However if anybody knows how to connect linux pc as renderer directly in youtube app it would be amazing.
Please share if anybody.
Kind regards Mira

Sorry I don't even use Android anymore, and by the responses you're getting here this is not the forte of most other LQ users either.
It also seems to me that your descriptions aren't very technical, you're basicaly just saying this app and that app. But that could be just me, being so ignorant of the topic at hand.
You might want to properly phrase a technical question (see my signature for hints) in a new thread.
