don't think there is a proper solution yet. mplayer is just at the moment reverse engineering realplayer to get support, and video does work on it now, but not audio yet. if you only want video then it should work.

Where is mplayer's capture facility?

Where in Mplayer is the feature? I just downloaded and successfully installed Mplayer but when I come to open files, realplayer files are not listed (also .asf, .wmv, and many others are listed)? Thanks for your help.

PS. I'm using MPlayer-0.90pre5

get the latest cvs version and just use the command line, not the gui. just put the address you want to stream and it should play. you can then dump the stream with the -streamdump option. please check the man page and docs for more info
