cant use Totem media player for playbacks in Ubuntu

Hi, am farly new to ubuntu, despite this i have got almost everything up and running, except the media player/s. Vlc can play some of the files while Totem can play some. Totem keeps asking for decoders all the time, can someone help or explain in a more step for step description. Think i have downloaded everything from the synaptic that can be downloaded.

All i am looking for is a simple way to install and run Totem so i can have one thing to do everything

Hi,

Totem is just a front-end gui program for either video player gstreamer or xine. Check out which you're using and install the codecs (including ffmpeg) for that particular player.
