I cleaned the disc with warm soapy water and dried it. Same result. THe strange thing is that I "inspected" the disc carefully and I cant see any scratches, damage or anything else... THe disc also does NOT look counterfeit (aka a bad copy)... Seems to be original.

Could it be some kind of bug?

Could be just a bad copy, it does happen. Less likely but possible it that disc just 'doesnt like' your DVD drive, or that it is using a different DRM scheme to the rest of the discs.

Make sure it is the same region as the player.

Actually, there was a disk I tried to rip once, and it wasn't scratched, but it just would not rip. It failed every time. I don't know why this was, maybe it is a new method of copy protection.
