First, check if you can use a pre-compiled Broadcom STA driver. See info in post #14.

If not, it may be necessary to download the source and compile. We can guide you through that if necessary.

I did an Ubuntu software update and it started working all of a sudden.

Yep, it will have pulled in the driver and installed for you. :)
