yeah that's unusual to have ie running in Linux. Not much point to it. HL should not need ie to be in stalled.

On a similiar note - they used to have an ie5 for Unix/Linux - they removed it and you can't find it anywhere on the net.

it has TONS of howtos for wine...and specifically, it has one for IE6.

why anyone would want to run IE on Linux I'll never know but thanks for the Wine reference. the thought of running all my old favourite games on a OpenGL window under Linux just floors me

Well allow me to educate you :D

I need to run IE 6 on my laptop which only has linux...the reason for this is that I need to connect to my workstation at my office to work outside office hours (frequently unfortunately)...my company is a microsoft shop (mostly) so they have some weird ASP type site that I need to log onto to open a hole in the firewall before connecting to my station with PC-Anywhere (which I've replaced with SSH and TightVNC...because I've never gotten pcanywhere to run in linux).

I spent quite a while trying everything I can think of with Mozilla to load the damn logon page but nothing works (it won't even respond)...so by running IE, I can do the work I was meant to do without having to install a windows partition just so I can work.
