in no way can your mozilla be entirely in /usr/local until you have actually moved it there (which i highly doubt).
as root, run updatebd and then locate libflashplayer.so.
you can't get flash to work in mozilla untill you have that file in /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/plugins/libflashplayer.so. if you don't have it in that location, copy-paste it there.

Do read what people say:

I did a clean install of mozilla, I didn't get it from my distro disc, but from the mozilla site directly.
It's not an rpm install so it could very well be in /usr/local/mozilla. It's only going to confuse people if you say stuff without taking into account what they say.

yes. mozilla can be installed in /usr/local. i installed it for my system and it installed in /usr/local. i though, am not suffering from flash problems or other plugin problems. not only is there the *.so file that needs to be in the plugins directory, i believe there's also a *.xpt file that also needs to be in the plugins directory. but if you literally told the installer /usr/local/mozilla, then you do have a problem. if i remember correctly, you need to tell the installer the browser's plugins directory -> /usr/local/mozilla/plugins.

kanuuker 10-12-2003 11:28 PM

I have both the .xpt and .so files in the plugin directory, however I didn't direct the installer to the plugins directory, just the mozilla directory.

This is starting to annoy me. Thanks for everyones help so far though.

dunno. wierd. i'm not aware of your kind of problem with flash 6. the only ones i'm aware of are sound issues and the few others outlined in their read me file. if you're interested, i can upload the files needed for flash player 5 and you can see if that version works for you.

good man megaspaz.

May I add this little tidbit. I installed using a rpm and had no problems. It is called flash-plugin-6.0.79-1.i386.rpm. It worked fine for me.

Hope you get it working.

:D :D :D

yup. exactly!!! :)

I think I may need to start this whole procesess from scratch. How do I remove my non-rpm mozilla and the plugin?

quatsch 10-13-2003 10:32 AM

delete the directory that contains mozilla. Maybe also delete the ~/.mozilla directory or move it somewhere else (so you can restore some of the settings later).

kanuuker 10-13-2003 11:23 AM

So, unlike windows, you can simply delete a folder to remove a program? There's no unistall needed?

all my bookmarks are in ./moziila?

Xterminator 10-13-2003 01:21 PM

already it made setup in the directory of the flash-plugin ?
cd /usr/lib/flash-plugin/
./setup

possibly - by the sound of it.

Does it work?
Is the plugin listed in mozilla?

kanuuker 10-13-2003 07:57 PM

I got it to work. I removed mozilla 1.4 and installed 1.3 from my distro disc. The flash on my disc was corrupt so I ran the flash installer I had dl'd before and now it works like a charm. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Bambam 11-05-2003 06:52 PM

I've just had the same problem trying to get Mozilla to recognise the flash plugin I've installed.
I was just about to go the same route as you did (uninstall and then install from distro) when I spotted the file run-mozilla.sh in the mozilla directory. I tried it and it produced an error message before opening the mozilla window. It seems that my Mandrake distro hadn't installed libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3. A quick trawl around showed me it is part of the libstdc++2.10 package, which I installed and now have a working flash player in mozilla.

Pain in the butt to find .... but I got there inthe end :-)
