Cant find my SMP kernel
 

Hi Guys,

I have a bit of a problem. After realising I needed to enable APM support so my system shuts down completely, I read through the posts to find solution.
After reading this forum, I found the instructions to recompile the kernel.
I proceeded to recompile the kernel, and I enabled APM support.
However, in GRUB, I have two kernel choices (+win2k) being 2.14.18 - 14, and 2.14.18-14smp.
I always use the smp choice as I have dual xeons.
Now, when I recompiled the kernel, i actually recompiled 2.14.18-14 - not the smp one. Because, when I use the smp kernel, I still dont have APM enabled, but when I use the other one (which i recompiled), APM works, and pc shuts down completely - perfect!!
How can I recompile the smp kernel - i cant find it anywhere!!!

I am a confused.

SMP support is just an option under Processor Type and Features. If you load up your .config, you can make the change, and recompile.

You can check if you have it in the one you already compiled. Just cat /proc/cpuinfo . If it lists the two processors, then you have SMP enabled.

unfortunately, no smp on the modified kernel. I could go and enable this, as well as the ntfs support I had on the other kernel... but.....

Shouldnt the smp kernel be around somewhere?

No, it only compiles one bzImage. As long as everything else works, a recompile won't be any trouble. Be sure to give it a different name than the single-processor kernel.
