Cant enable SCSI device support in kernel

Hey,
I was just trying to enable SCSI device support in my kernel as a module to try to get my USB MP3 player to work, and it doesn't seem to want to enable. Not as in it wont compile... but it just wont even do anything, it wont have a Y come up next to it. The space beside it in make menuconfig's menu's has a --- beside where SCSI device support is and if I try to change it it wont change. I do not have a SCSI card or anything in my system, I have an EIDE system, however, I dont see why this would make me unable to enable SCSI device support anyway. Does anybody know whats going on and how to get it to enable?

Thanks,
Marshall
