cant create boot floppy

Trying to create the boot floppy at the end of Slackware 9.0 installation and system crashes.
Tried about six times, same problem.
Downloaded bare.i boot file from and did 'dd if=bare.i of=/dev/fd0
and same thing happens.
AMD viper 1.3. Floppy drive ok.
Help! What,s going on? Is this enough info?

"What,s going on?"

It sounds like dd is writing to a spot in memory instead of a physical device. Check to see where /dev/fd0 is pointing. It should point to device 2,0 and the permissions start with brw.

Be prepared. Create a LifeBoat CD.
