Cant' view WMV files, or MLB.TV live streams

Hi,
I can't view wmv in Mplayer, I only get the audio portion. Same while trying to view MLB games from the mlb.tv website with Firefox.

I can however view mlb games using Konqueror, they open in the browser, and until a short time ago, I could view the the game in Kaffeine after I opened it in the browser. Now that crashes Konqueror if I do that.

I am running Mepis 6.0 alpha 1, the win32 codecs are installed.
I have the same/similar problem on my SUSE 10 box.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem. You need to ge the "all-codecs" package from mplayer and install them in the right place. Then you need to recompile/install mplayer or it will not be configured to use the new codecs. Also make sure you have hardware acceleration enabled for your video card. WMV are very process intensive. I was unable to play them on a 2.4 GHz w/ 1Gb of RAM without getting my hardware acceleration working.

hope this helps,
...drkstr

Hi,

Thank you both jilo_sandog, and drkstr for taking the time.

I tried both sugestions, I am now able to watch the games in Kaffeine externally.

I added the “all-codecs” package from the mplayer site, and reinstalled both mplayer and Kaffeine. Edited the preference file and now I have Baseball. Woo-Hoo!

Don't know why it runs in kaffeine, but I am happy to have it back.
Thanks again.
