Thumbs down Cannot play streaming media - Browser dies

Im trying to view streaming video such as the ones available from apple.com, real.com etc. I have installed gmplayer and the "all in one" codec pack, as well as the mozilla mplayer plugin. However, when i click on a link that would take me to the video, all instances of my web browser that i have open suddenly close. I dont even get mplayer loading up. If i try to paste the link directly into the mplayer Open -> Play URL.. box, i get an error message stating:
"Sorry, this file format is not recognized/supported."

My web browser is mozilla 1.6.

Could anyone help?

Thanks for reading.

Try rightclicking the file and choose open in a new window. That worked for me when I encountered a file that closed my browser. Also, something that I did to get videos to stream for my mozilla and firefox browsers was to download xinelib and then installed the gxine plugin. I also have the mplayer plugin, realplayer plugins and codecs and the all important mozplugger. Having all of this installed has allowed me to play real player, windows media and quicktime files off the net.
