I installed this, and now when I try to play an mp3, the whole XMMS stops responding, and i cannot even close it...

Need info in order to help.
Use xkill (or gtop or some other process manager) to kill it. What is the "this" that you installed? Several rpms are listed. What command(s)s did you use? Were there any error messages or warnings you saw during your install? If so, post them. What error messages appear when xmms is run from an x console? |
I am on gentoo and I have emerge xmms and alsa-xmms.
If I am root I can play an audio cd and then an mp3. If I am a temporary user I can play mp3's only after I play the audio cd. If I try and play mp3's first then xmms hangs. As a regular user I can only play audio cd's. Even if I play the cd first and then try an mp3s xmms hangs. |
Have you added yourself to the audio group?
|
ah yes, forgot to add that I am part of the audio group.
It's sporadic now, I've found that sometimes if I play an audio cd I can then select an mp3 and get it to play--but not always. I just try and start with an mp3 it locks. I'm reemerging xmms and alsa-xmms right now. I've been looking all over google, xmms forum, gentoo forum, and here but haven't found a solution yet. thanks for the reply. |
Run things from an x terminal so you can monitor any error messages.
|
I tried to run it from a console but no errors appeared.
