Angry Cannot Install NEW Programs?

Hi all,
When I go to install a downloaded program (such as Limewire) I get this error:

Packages Not Found

The following packages could not be found on your system. Installation cannot continue until they are installed.

j2re ('Limewire-free,' '4.4.5','0')
libxss.so.1 ('Limewire-free',"4.4.5','0')

This error happens everytime I try and install something.

I am very new to Redhat, so I need "play-by-play" about what to do (if anything).

Thanks,
Dan

you need j2re and libxss.so.1you can probably get the both from http://rpm.pbone.net

http://apt.freshrpms.net/

installing programs with apt-get is a piece of cake. just open you terminal wriete su, than write apt-get update and finally apt-get install *insert package name*

Talking HI there

HI DMU,

I think this is awesom! I'm a newb like yourself. and I encounterd the same problem!

THEN a helping forum MEMBERS (much thanks) where so kind to take me by the hand, stick with me and show me the ropes! I had LInux redhat 9.0 installed and was trying to get LimeWireLinux.rpm up and running just as yourself. Here's the deal, redhat 9 and I'm assuming previouse versions as well are EOL (end of life) distros. Thus making trying to upgrade and install packages for a NEWB a pretty rough road.

SO, here is what you do (I did) go to: http://fedora.redhat.com/download/ and check out this distro! you may be thinking I like the distro I have ect...... why should I switch?????? TRUST me Fedora core 3 is a beautifull OS and those files you are missing, you wont be, becuase they come with the distro! (version of linux). DOWNLOAD the fedora core 3 iso's (boot disks) install the distro.
You will have full access to all of the kernal updates, program updates (they install automaticly by the way- I.E. no command prompt)
If your skeptical (I was) just listen to this:

I downloaded the fedora core 3 and just as a trial run installed it on my ole IBM thinkpad. I was so Impressed with the OS (operating sytem) and its GUI (graphical user interface) I thought I'd like to play with this on a high end pc (my gaming PC) So I backed up all my important stuff on XP and FDISK (dos command) the whole drive! to make a long storie short Fedora core 3- WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY surpassed my expectations! with this forums help I got Limewire up and running in a snap (thanks Reddazz!) AND SO MUCH MORE!!!!

there are programs like APT and SYNAPTIC that allow you to upgrade all all types of packages (from a gui)

THE link again is: http://fedora.redhat.com/download/
Once you have fedora I will be more than happy to help you get up and running!
LINUX ROCKS

hey does this mean I can get the newbie label off my head? lol

Re: HI there

Hi,
Thanks for letting me know that I am not the only one having this problem, and for referring me to the other OS.

How did you make the ISOs, from a Linux or Windows box?

Dan
