Cannot install Firefox Extensions

Firefox won't let me install any extentions. In the extensions dialog they say 'GooglePreview will be installed when Firefox is restarted' for example, but when I do restart it nothing happens. They all still say I need to restart the browser. I can change themes alright. I've even tried restarting the machine and it doesn't work.
I'm using the latest version of Firefox (updated it the other day) with OpenSuse10 and GNOME.

Any ideas?

By extensions, do you mean plugins? The Security forum here may help as updating the browser was necessary for security reasons.

Regardless of the update, it's the plug-ins that are the problem. I never actually had them installed before the update though so I don't think the Security Forum applies.

The Security forum discusses installation problems, including installing plugins.
See also http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/notes.html#loc-unix which states:

On Unix, Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox search for browser plugins in the following locations:

* The path pointed to by environment variable MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH
* Your Mozilla plugins directory (For example, /opt/mozilla/plugins)
* ~/.mozilla/plugins (Mozilla Firefox looks here too, see Bug 172891).
